Sucralose Changed Mouse Guts Two Generations Later
Concha Celume 2026: 47 mice, 16 weeks. Parental sucralose changed guts and glucose signals two generations that never drank it. September 1 diet soda is not a clean file.

Iris is 42. Tuesday, 7:11 a.m. September 1. The backpack is on the chair. Labor Day trays land in six days. Kickoff is September 9. The diet soda is already in the tote, sweating next to a juice box she would never drink herself.
She tells the kettle the line every desk parent learns on a new-month Tuesday.
"I'll just drink diet this month."
Chiron pinged at 6:51: Yesterday Hugo taped 104 cm. Your log still has three zero-cal cans and no protein at lunch. She left it unread. The static app on her phone still thinks today is a clean start.

If that is your Tuesday, busy parent, desk spine, over-forty gut that sat through August, read this file. You do not need a new-month identity. You need the can-and-stool pairing a 2026 Chilean mouse cohort actually ranked.
Quick take - Francisca Concha Celume, Francisco Pérez-Bravo, Fabien Magne, Ricardo Olivares, and Martin Gotteland, 2026, Frontiers in Nutrition. 47 C57BL/6J mice. Water, sucralose, or stevia at 0.1 mg/ml for 16 weeks in the parent generation. Dose about 5 to 15 mg/kg/day, inside the Food and Drug Administration acceptable daily intake band for humans. Published 10 April 2026. ScienceDaily put it on the fitness wire 31 August. - Children and grandchildren drank plain water only. They never tasted the sweetener. - Parent generation: oral glucose test unchanged for sucralose. Total short-chain fatty acids already lower in both sweetener groups. - First offspring: sucralose males had a higher glucose area-under-curve versus control (p = 0.005). Intestinal Toll-like receptor 4 and tumor necrosis factor rose in both sweetener groups. - Second generation: sucralose males had higher fasting glucose than the first generation (p = 0.022). Stevia females showed the same bump versus their mothers' offspring (p = 0.017). Total short-chain fatty acids still lower. Sucralose moved 17 fecal genera in the parents versus 4 for stevia. - Honesty: mice. Standard chow. Both parents treated. Not a human trial. They did not get diabetes. Subtle glucose and gene signals. Translate the skill. Do not steal the sample.
The morning she trusted the can
Iris opens Notes in the driveway with the engine still running. Yesterday: 7,400 steps, a protein bar in the car line, three diet sodas, zero fiber that was not a label claim. The watch called it an active Monday. The gut never got a vote.
She mutters the line her old tracker trained her to say.
"Zero calories is the start."
Then she actually reads the methods instead of the headline. Forty-seven mice. Sixteen weeks. Not a 21-day challenge. A 2026 file asking whether the can you drink still belongs in your kids' biology.
Zero calories is not a clean gut.
She writes that on a school-lunch flyer with a dying marker and sticks it under a magnet next to a September reset screenshot she will not run. The kid yells from the porch. She still has the can in her hand.
What she did with the tote before first period
She puts the can back in the fridge. Not a speech. A fridge. The juice box stays. The chicken from Sunday goes in the bag because the paper is not a fasting cult and she still has a 1 p.m. window at a desk that smells like toner.
The unread ping was this paper, in English, before the first "new month, diet soda" reel. She reads it at the red light on 12th.
What the 2026 Chile file actually said
Not a scare headline. A pairing.
Iris squints at three generations on her phone while the kid unbuckles. The parents drank the sweetener for 16 weeks. The kids and grandkids drank water. The parents' own glucose curves barely moved. The kids' curves did, mostly in males on sucralose. The grandkids still carried lower stool acids and a fasting-glucose bump the parents never showed on day one.
She laughs once, the ugly kind, because that is the exact story of a September reset. You feel fine on day one. The bill shows up in a generation you were not planning to invoice.
The two drawers people mash
The fibermaxxing file already taught you to feed the bugs. This paper is the opposite invoice. This paper is what happens when the parent generation drinks a non-nutritive sweetener and the next two generations still show a thinner short-chain fatty acid pool. Do not mash them.
Leftover pasta hitting blood sugar softer is a cook-chill trick you can run tonight. Breakfast after noon is a clock. Concha Celume is a mouse gut that kept the receipt after the can left the cage. Adjacent files. Not the same drawer.
She finds yesterday's cans in the recycling when she gets home from drop-off. Three silver. She writes 3 under the magnet. The kid's lunch still has a juice she would lecture a coworker about.
The can is a meeting. The stool acids are the file.
Hugo taped a waist yesterday because August died. Iris is not taping centimeters this morning. Iris is swapping sugar for sucralose and calling the swap a protocol.
September 1 is not a protocol
The calendar flipped at midnight. Labor Day trays land next Monday. Kickoff is a Wednesday in Seattle.
Iris is not a holiday. Iris is 42 with a tote that treats diet soda like virtue. September 1 is a meeting. Her tryout is the can count.
She says it in the garage after the first school drop, to nobody, which is how most of this work happens.
"The kids never drank the can. The signal still showed up."
World Health Organization guidance already questioned whether non-nutritive sweeteners help long-term weight control. This mouse file is not that press release. This mouse file is intergenerational stool chemistry at a human-range dose. Still mice. Still not a license to shame a can at a cookout.
I learned the ugly version on a hospital floor. Jake. Security. Night shifts. 308 to 196. The vending machine at 3 a.m. sold "diet" as the adult choice. The scale moved when the cans stopped being the plan and protein started showing up on a flipped clock. Nobody clapped. The radio still hissed.
What Iris actually did before the 1 p.m. window
She does not ban sweetener from the county. That is how 42-year-old desk weeks write sad emails.
She keeps the coffee. She leaves the diet can out of the tote for five workdays and writes the count on the flyer. She does not panic-buy a probiotic haul. She puts lunch protein back in the bag and a leftover-starch dinner on the actual plate, the one the resistant-starch pasta file already paid for.
Tuesday the plan dies anyway. Rain at 3:10. A coworker texts that pickup moved to 4:40. The January PDF still wants a 45-minute gym and a September shred. Chiron does not. The live note is already can logged, protein at lunch, 25-minute session, skip the shred. Static programs cannot see a rain delay. This one can.
That is the whole product, if I am being blunt. Not a new identity. A rewrite the same day the recycling shows three cans.
How Legacy In Motion actually uses this
HERMES pulled the Frontiers in Nutrition cohort the morning ScienceDaily put it on the wire. Chiron does not wait for a quarterly PDF reprint.
If you log three or more non-nutritive sweetener drinks in a day and skip a protein meal, the coach treats that as a gut-and-lunch problem, not a willpower problem. The rewrite is water or coffee in the afternoon slot, protein per meal, fiber you can count, and no "diet month" identity. A short night after a double does not get you a 21-day cleanse. It gets a lighter session and the same can count.
Night-shift version is the same math on a flipped clock. Jake's 3 a.m. vending machine was this protocol with a radio on his shoulder.
If three school mornings keep logging the can as breakfast, the practice moves to a water bottle in the tote, not try-harder on September 1. The watch can lie. The can count cannot.

Steal this before the cookout
- Count the cans for seven days. Write the number. Diet soda, stevia packets, sucralose yogurt. All of it.
- Do not treat zero calories as a gut protocol. Concha Celume's mice still dropped short-chain fatty acids after the parents drank the dose.
- Pack lunch protein. The can is not a meal.
- Keep coffee. Keep water. Leave the third afternoon can in the fridge.
- Labor Day tray, travel day, rain delay: log the change. The tryout moves with the kitchen, not with the gym hours on a January PDF.
- Do not use September 1 as the score. Concha Celume's grandkids were ranked by stool acids and a glucose curve, not by a calendar vow.
Iris peels the 3 off the flyer after pickup and writes cans this week, protein at lunch. The kid still needs the backpack. The gut still has a job. She drinks water in the car and it tastes like nothing, which is the point.
The month flipped at midnight. Your tryout is the can.
Your move. Not a later gym. The drinks you can actually skip before the coffee ends.

Questions Worth Asking
Does diet soda really change your gut for generations?
Francisca Concha Celume and colleagues, 2026, in Frontiers in Nutrition, gave 47 mice water, sucralose, or stevia at 0.1 mg/ml for 16 weeks. The children and grandchildren drank only water. Sucralose still moved fecal bacteria, dropped short-chain fatty acids, and left mild glucose-curve changes in male offspring. This is a mouse study, not a human verdict, and the animals did not develop diabetes.
Is stevia safer than sucralose?
In this file, stevia moved fewer genera (4 versus 17 in the parents) and its intestinal inflammation genes peaked in the first offspring generation, then eased. Sucralose's liver sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 drop lasted into the second generation. Call it a smaller signal, not a free pass.
I already swapped to diet soda for September 1. Do I panic?
No. Do not throw the fridge. Count the cans for a week. If the zero-cal can is the whole reset, that is the file. Water, coffee, protein, leftover starch that actually hits blood sugar softer. The calendar is not a protocol.
Is this the same as fibermaxxing?
No. Fibermaxxing is you feeding the bugs. This paper is the parent generation drinking non-nutritive sweeteners and the next two generations still showing lower stool acids. Adjacent drawer, different invoice.
What should a busy parent over 40 do on September 1?
Pack the lunch. Leave the diet can out of the tote for one week. Write how many you actually drank. If the week still works, keep it. If the 3 p.m. crash is the can plus a skipped lunch, that is the rewrite, not a new identity.
